Chivalry Sports commented on the costumes of The Tudors. 

Some of it is georgeous and some is so awful I want to scream. But I just watched the Tudor Stylemakers, http://www.sho.com/site/tudors/special_features.do , and the stylist admits that she has taken some awful big liberties. She wanted to give the audience the same visceral feeling about the clothing that the Tudors would have experienced. So if seeing a sheer fabric in the sleeves would have been shocking and bold in their period she had to step it up a notch to get the same effect from a modern audience. She was also trying to interpret the story and character through clothing rather than just regergitating history.
